MAPS OF POMPEII

One way of learning about an area like the region around Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius is by looking at an image of a photograph taken from the Space Shuttle. Click here to see one. Can you locate the mountain? Where is the Mediterranean?

If you click the graphic icon right below the Space Shuttle photo, you will go to some very interesting material about the volcano and the plans for being prepared for the next eruption. There is information about other volcanoes and access to other sites. This site is great for volcano information.

The map you just looked at is part of a website called "The Forum Project". The archaeologists working at Pompeii are very involved with studying the Forum area in "older" Pompeii. There is a great photograph taken from a balloon over the Forum that shows you the layout of the city around this important place. Remember: the forum in a Greek city is where the people conduct their public affairs. Click here to see the map. There is a great deal of information about Pompeii here. If you like a challenge, look around a bit and see what you think of the site. It is designed for experts, so don't worry if some things seem hard. You might know more than you think!
