Other Theories
Lets face it, for most of us the story of Atlantis is right up
there with Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster and alien abduction
stories. The cult status of Atlantis is due in large part to a
man named Ignatius Donnelly and his book Atlantis, The Antediluvian
World (antediluvian = before the time of the Biblical flood).
First published in 1882, Donnelly describes a prehistoric world
that, when it was destroyed in a cataclysm, its people fled and
founded the civilizations of the ancient Egyptians and the Maya
of Central America.
Here are some other winners that people have tried out.
- Some say that the annual migration of lemmings off the Norwegian
coast into the sea marks the spot where Atlantis sunk into the
depths. Every year, out of some migratory instinct, these small
rodents swim out to an area in the Atlantic ocean and circle as
if looking for something. Eventually they tire and with nowhere
to go, they drown.
- Edgar Cayse predicted that Atlantis would rise again out of
the Western Atlantic sometime in 1968 or1969. Reports say that
he is getting a bit tired of waiting, but still hopeful.
- Some people explain the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle
with the suggestion that Atlantis lays beneath this area of ocean.
It is the misdirected energy from "Atlantean fire-crystals"
that causes all the planes and boats to disappear.
