The oracular
temple of Apollo at Delphi is the oracle mentioned in Sophocles' play Oedipus Rex.
The temple also had a sacred way that led to it. The oracle prospered
during the 8th and 7th centuries BC. This was largely due to the importance that the oracle played in advising Greek cities. In
the 6th century the temple was destroyed and rebuilt in 548 BC
only to be destroyed again and rebuilt again sometime after 373
BC (Perseus/Delphi).
