The Punishment of Tantalus

Tantalus had to stand forever in a pool of clear cold water with a tree overhead with beautiful juicy fruit on it. Whenever he bent down to take a drink, the water would lower itself away from his lips. Whenever he reached up to get some fruit, the tree branch would rise out of his reach. So he was always hungry and thirsty.
