What is exposure?

In ancient Greece, neither abortions nor birth control worked very well. So people had a lot of unwanted babies. Or the baby might be a girl when they wanted a boy. Sometimes people took these babies and left them outside somewhere, to die. That way they didn't have to kill them themselves, but they didn't have to support them either.

Sometimes such children were rescued by slave traders and raised as slaves, or adopted by infertile couples.
