The Mars Pathfinder landed on the planet on 4th July 1997 and  began sending data back to Earth within days.  The images were taken by cameras placed on the landing vehicle and on the Rover vehicle which was able to roam the planet surface and take the most spectacular close-up pictures of the surface of Mars ever seen.
The picture on this page were all taken as part of the Pathfinder Mission and include pictures of a sunrise over the Martian horizon.
