Egyptians took a lot of care over their appearance. They continued to wear the same style clothing for hundreds of years. People took pride over keeping their clothes spotlessly clean and neatly arranged everyday.

Women

Women never dressed without washing first. Wealthy women had servants who poured water over them; poorer women still washed but they had to do it themselves.  They dressed in a rectangular piece of transparent linen with a central hole for the head.  Many women wore a simple form of make-up which consisted of powdered minerals mixed with oil. They painted it straight on to their faces.  Most of the powder was green , blue or black.

The Egyptians wore white clothing which kept them cool.  The women wore jewels round their necks and on headbands around their heads.  The men also wore jewels around their necks.  The wealthy men and women wore sandals, but the poorer people simply had bare feet.
