Gods were also very important in Egyptian life. There was a god or goddess for everything you can of think of. Re, the sun god, was god of the sun. He pushed the sun across the sky every morning to give light and day to Egypt. At night he pushed the sun across the sky the other way to let night fall over Egypt.
The Nile had a great deal to do with the farmers. When the flooding season came, they had little to do because the land was fed by the stilt from the flood. By November the water had gone down. Next, the farmers planted the harvest. Then they got to work weeding and letting in a bit of water. When the harvest was ready they collected it in and the whole system started again.
Ancient Egyptian clothing was very different to today's. It was light, airy and simple. Egyptian society respected and honoured woman. Perhaps this explains why their style of clothing was more refined. They too wore a more simple loin cloth, but it was half hidden beneath the long transparent garment called a kalasiris. The kalasiris was made from a very fine material, dyed in a soft colour.
