Pyramids were built by the Egyptians around 3,000 years ago. One of the famous Pharaohs who was put in a pyramid was Khufu, whose pyramid was at Giza. It was built in 2520BC. It was only slightly smaller than the Great Pyramid.
At first, pyramids were stepped, but soon afterwards, they also became sloped-sided. Beside the great pyramids at Giza stands a giant sphinx (a lion's body with a man's head). The pyramids at Giza were built in 2160BC. They are the biggest in the world.
