A picture of the Mere in 1991. The Mere for many years has been silting up and would dry up completely in the summer months.

Using the machine which was to build the Channel Tunnel, the Mere has been dredged. The money for this project was from a National Lottery Grant. Local organisations along with English Heritage are planting trees and developing nature trails.
