The bull in this painting was probably kept at court. The picture is based on the style set by Mansur, the famous animal artist of Jahangir the fourth Great Mughul; it has the typical acute observation shown by the Jahangir studios. It is appealingly realistic, although the proportions are not accurate. The Brahmany bull (often called Shiva's bull) is important to Hindus and is often kept at temples or in ruler's courts.
