When a ladybird's skin hardens it will mate and lay eggs on a leaf's centre vein. The eggs then drop to the ground. The eggs hatch into tiny brown larvae that look a little bit like spiders. The larvae eat lots and lots of greenfly and grow very fat. The larvae's skin grows very tight and it moults 4 times and every time there are more orange blobs. The larvae attach themselves to a twig and turn into a chrysalis. It pushes itself out then the life cycle starts all over again. Back to life cycle page Class AT Ladybird page Class JR Ladybird page
