There are well over 1 million different known species of insects in the world, and some experts estimate that there might be as many as 10 million. They are divided up into around 500 thousand species. In fact 25% of animals on this planet is a beetle and 95% of all the species in the world are insects.

An insect is an air breathing animal with a hard jointed exoskeleton, and in the adult a body divided into three parts, the head with one pair of antennae, the thorax which carries three pairs of legs and usually two pairs of wings, and the abdomen which contains the guts and reproductive organs.
Most insects live on land, but a few live on the surface, such as the marine fly, and some beetle larvae live beneath the surface.
