Octopus, jellyfish and slugs are molluscs
that don't have shells. The octopus is found world-wide in tropical and warm
seawaters. There are many different species of octopus. The largest octopus the North Pacific Octopus that may grow
to over 10 metres. The smallest is the Californian which only reaches to 2cm in length.
Octopuses have the most complex brain of the invertebrates (animals with out
backbones). They have a good sense of touch in it's suckers. When threatened,
octopuses will often try to escape by releasing a cloud of purple-black ink to confuse the
enemy. |
A slug is a form of snail. Both snails
and slugs are molluscs, except slugs lack the snail's external spiral shell. Feeding at night, slugs eat both the roots and leaves of plants; some species are
serious garden pests.
