Friday congregational worship is
compulsory for Muslim men. Note that the days marked red on the calendar on a regular
basis are Fridays.
In most Muslim lands Friday is a holiday rather than Sunday. It is
not, however, prescribed as a day of rest but rather one of obligatory worship. Work and
business transactions are permitted as usual before and after the time of the Friday
noon-prayer.
