In History we are doing the Romans. We pretended to be roman soldiers in Britannia. We had to write letters to our family in Rome. In letters in Roman times, they wrote who it was to instead of writing dear and who it was from at the beginning of the letter, not at the end. We wrote about how it was different in Britain (for example) food, Weather and books. We had to tell our parents about our chores (which is our job), for example cleaning the toilets.

Here are some of the Roman letters.

21st December AD 18

To Debrus Harrius

From Tillus

It is very cold in Great Britain and because of that it is very boring. I hate being in Great Britain. I can’t come back to Rome. It was much better in Rome because it was much hotter and we don’t have to stay inside. I hate fighting a lot. Can you send some more clothes for us? We hope we will come back to Rome soon. I really miss you mum and dad please can you send us some food. Write back soon.

Bye.

Dear Mum and Dad

It is very wet and cold and I don’t like it here. I hope you are well. It is boring because we just march around all day. I find it hard to sleep. We have very hard work like building roads and houses. The mattress are as hard as a rock. I will need two pares of socks. The food is horrible. We played cards all day. I will need some fruit. We are going fighting tomorrow and I hope I don’t get killed do you. I hope are family is well and are pets to. I want to be at home with you. It is very cold here and its especially at night in winter. We have to carry things like swords and spears and shields around.
