Trams

This is a picture of one of the old trams in Ipswich. They ran on metal rails. When you got on to the tram you would pay a fee  according to where you were going. Trams ran from 1903 - 1926. They stopped trams because they kept on changing the rails on the road and the cars were getting in the way.

Trolley Buses

Trolley Buses were used in the WW2. Trolley buses started in 1926 and finished in 1963. They stopped because Ipswich was getting bigger and they were not
practical.

In 1963 trolley buses were replaced by motor buses which we use now. The trolley buses  were replaced because they also became too dangerous.

More Recent Changes

Modern buses are now changing. In Ipswich they are changing things again because we need to change our transport and make more people use public transport, to save pollution and for the world to be a much cleaner place.

Why don't more people go on buses?

It takes too long to get to Ipswich because the buses pick people up from 18 different places. It takes half an hour to get to Ipswich in the car and it takes 1 hour and three minutes on a bus. Also to get to Ipswich by  9.00 am you have to leave Framlingham at 7.21 am. We think more people will use buses if they go quicker and take a more direct route.

How I think buses will look in the future

Buses will be crammed full of people.  They will have booster rockets on the back. They will have 3 wheels so they can go off-road. They will have bright colours. There will be a ramp so you can get your pushchair in then you don't have to fold your pushchair before you go in the bus. There are going to be very comfy seats as well. The wheels will have a new really soft tyre that is strong and has lots of suspension. It will be powered by wind and sun! It will have a TV for every 2 seats.
