Whipping posts were common. In London they had 60 at least. It was opened to lock prisoners in place and then whipped - very painful !!!
People used to get their arms and legs in a whipping post and they whipped them with a horse hair
whip. The legs would go in the holes so they couldn't move them. The belly would go in the white holder and their arms went in the stocks.
The whipping post is for men. They went to jail to get whipped.
The Justice of the Peace did these things:
1. Decide how much local workers could be paid .
2. Be in charge of the whipping of
the beggars. The beggar also got a hole burned though the right ear .
