The Mary Rose was an old Tudor warship, it had around 90 cannons on board. It also carried over 400 men and could have been used as a sailing boat.
Henry VIII's favourite ship was the Mary Rose and he sent it out to stop the French from attacking. He saw his ship turn sharply when it started to sink. Henry himself was watching from Portsmouth harbour. There were many deaths but only a few survived.
