Advanced Level Biology
Advanced Level Biology sets out to give you a working knowledge of the huge variety of plant and animal life. The course concentrates especially on the detailed internal structure of mammals and flowering plants, their physiology and biochemistry. Genetics and ecology is also studied in depth. All students are expected to read widely, and pursue individual interests in the field of biology.
This is a modular course with external examinations approximately every two terms.
In the first year of the course all students go on a week-long field visit which is assessed.
Practical work is an important part of the course and examined by continuous assessment. It is designed to teach the basic skills of scientific investigation and the handling of biological materials.
A qualification in Advanced Level Biology gives you a foundation for entry into careers in many fields, such as Medicine, Agriculture, Biotechnology, Conservation, and Education.
