Advanced Level History
Th Advanced Level History Course is in two sections; (a) British and European History, 1494 - 1700. This is a traditional course, lasting two years. It leads to a three-hour examination in which you write four essays. (b) Historical Methodology. On this course historical craft is studied rather than a particular topic or period. A dissertation based on a piece of original research must be completed as part of the final examination. Much of the time is spent in the public library handling original documents and archive material.
Apart from being a fascinating study in its own right, the course gives the sort of background for careers in areas which require skill and training in research methods and the collation and analyses of information. This might include journalism, the law, the civil service, market research as well as History itself.
