Advanced Level Psychology


People often have a general view of psychology believing that it is chiefly concerned with people who could variously be described as "mentally ill" or "insane". More accurately, psychology of the mechanisms that underlie how we remember, perceive, learn, attend, think, and use and understand language. It also studies how our emotions and motivations develop and are controlled and how we behave in social situations as well as how social situations control us.

The AEB Advanced Level Psychology syllabus includes the study of cognitive psychology (thought processes, memory), social psychology (attitudes, pro and anti-social behaviour),bio-psychology (motivation, emotion, stress) and individual differences (personality, abnormal behaviour) The practical coursework involves 4 psychological studies.

Psychology is becoming an ever more important A Level which has applications in teaching, personnel work, social/probation work, medicine and of course in the various branches of professional psychology.

No previous experience of psychology is required for this course but students usually have good GCSE grades including mathematics.
