Modern Languages at Sir Wilfrid Martineau School
A working knowledge of at least one language is useful to anyone studying Geography, History, Business Studies and Food Technology. Extra languages will improve your future career prospects, widen your horizons and help you to enjoy yourself when you travel in other countries. A good grade in languages is an essential requirement for entry to some professions and for some university courses.
French and German
Students study a topic-based course, covering such themes as 'personal identification', 'my free time', and 'the young person in society'. Particular emphasis is placed one developing listening, reading and speaking skills. We expect all students to do well. During the course students also gain an understanding of the grammar and patterns of their own language. Students also have the opportunity to gain rewards for their work in the form of Bravo Awards and Language Certificates. Every student has the opportunity to participate in a French exchange, a trip to Germany or a French/History trip to Normandy.
