CLASS 7I PRIMARY INDUSTRIES

Class 7I have been looking at primary industries. We started by thinking about the advantages and disadvantages of mining. We thought about how we would feel if a mine was to be opened in our local area (called Shard End), and then we thought of the reasons why people might not agree with us.

These are our ideas :-

Should a Mine be opened in Shard End ?

Yes I think the mine should be opened because we need coal to produce electricity, and the mining industry provides jobs. After mining the land can be improved and new services can be built.

Some people might not agree with me because there are other sources of energy such as nuclear power and and because coal mining produces coal and can look ugly.

No! I don't think the mine should open because mining areas suffer from noise pollution, mines can cause air pollution, and ugly mining buildings spoil the scenery. Coal mining produces coal tips which are ugly and sometimes unsafe.
There are other sources of energy such as nuclear power, and if we mine all the coal in the earth it will be used up forever.

I think the mine should be opened and that its a very good idea so then we can get coal to make metal for lots of things that we use in the home or in any buildings or street. Every home has electricity. There will be jobs for people to mine the land to get coal, Nuclear power might not be safe.
