Silhouettes

With the help of Melissa, a teaching student from America, we made some silhouettes. Melissa shone a strong light onto the side of our heads. Our heads stopped the light getting through to the paper on the other side and made a shadow exactly the same shape and size of our heads.

We put them on the wall and had to guess who was who. (We had a numbered key to help us if we got stuck.)

Why don't you ask your teacher or other adult to help you do this?

After all this talk about light, we wondered what it would be like if the sun did not shine. This is what some of us thought:

"You would need torches, you'd need to keep your headlights on all the time." Fredrik

"It will be dark and it will rain." Ahad

"We will have no light." Poh Yee

"It would rain. There would be no people on earth. It would be cold in all summer. In winter it would be fun, you could play snow ball fights. It would be bad because you would freeze and die." John

"If the sun goes away it's going to be cold." Marisa

"If the sun did not shine it will be very very dark like a dark dark woods." Lucy

We liked Lucy's idea and decided to make our own version of A Dark Dark Tale by Ruth Brown.

Thank you for reading Class 1's web pages. Look out in the future for the surprise ending of A Dark, Dark Tale and other work on electricity.

Don't forget to use our glossary page to help you understand some of the words we have used.

Goodbye for now!
