A plan of the Tannery caves
The Caves of Nottingham were nearly lost forever when the Broad Marsh Shopping Centre was planned in the 1960's, but thanks to the hard work of volunteers they were saved and have gradually been restored to show the history of Nottingham.

It is not just underneath the Broad Marsh Centre that you can find caves - they run all around the city. At the site of the original castle many caves were cut into the soft sandstone rock - the world famous Trip to Jerusulem Inn

has several bars that extend into the castle rock. If you ever visit Nottingham pay a visit to the oldest Inn and view the wonder of the caves.
