The Galleries of Justice

Report by Thomas (cl3)

Trying on the costumes

On the 6th July 2001 some classes from Southwold Primary School went to the galleries of Justice.
First we went to a place that had artefacts in and we was allowed to try some things on like helmets, costumes and handcuffs. It was really interesting in the morning.

Facing the Judge

In the afternoon we went to the court and Jamie got judged by the judge.
Then we went down to the prison. It was very scary because this man called Quint had a real gun and sword.
When we gave Quint our ticket he ripped it, then told us to get into his prison. He was very tall as well.

The prison laundry

Then he took us around the prison and he put us in a cell and slammed the door. The cell was very dark and spooky.

After, he took us to woman who pretended to be a Victorian clothes cleaner. She showed us how to clean clothes.

The Exercise Yard

After we went to the exercise yard and this man told us to march, but we wasn't allowed to march anywhere we had to follow the arrows on the floor.
Teacher adds: In the corner of the yard was the scaffold. The rope was ready for a hanging. It kept the children quiet !

The scaffold. Ready and waiting !

Then we went to a VIctorian lady. She had a real whip and she told us to go into a room and get ready to go on a boat to Australia to build some buildings.
Teacher adds: The journey took 300 days, in a dark, smelly, squashed room inside the ship.

An old fashioned police box

Then we went to the police yard and got ready to go back to school.
