Classes 3 and 4 visit SciTec '99
On a sunny summer day classes 3 and 4 made thier way to Derby University to experience SciTec '99 - an extravanganza of Science and Technology
After entering the main area the children came across a good old fashioned piece of time travelling equipment - the TARDIS * from the long running BBC Scifi classic Dr Who. As you can see, Rsome children visited the inside of the TARDIS *.

Shortly after emerging from the TARDIS * the girls found a very nasty enemy of the Doctor waiting for them - the dreaded Daleks. Fortunately, it seemed like the Dalek was sleeping as it never called its famous words of "Exterminate.....Exterminate"

*Send an email if you know what it stands for and the first correct name will be put in here forever
T( ) A( ) R( ) D( ) I( ) S( ). Correctly identified by ( ) from ( ). Well Done !!
Still inside the main arena, the children viewed a much more modern time travelling machine -
Remember the time travelling DeLorean from Back to the Future ?. Built by the Doc, driven by Marty McFly ?

The children continued theor tour of the main arena, and also saw :
- Items of Technology from previous years
- How bridges are built
- How to transport fish from river to river
- Dinosaur fossils
- Police motorbikes
- Microscopic Life in ponds
- How to make light travel around corners
- How to decieve the mind with optical illusions
Once the children had viewed the exhibits in the main arena, it was off to a presentation - The Wizards Workshop
The children sat and watched as a 'Wizard' turned ordinary items into amazing experiments.
- Hovering Table Tennis Balls
- Tornadoes in a bottle
- Impossible balancing
- Walking through a sheet of paper
- Making straws sream
- Making eyes see colours that are not present
- Setting water on fire
Following the demonstration, the children had a chance to try some of the activities themselves;

Making a pen 'dive' and 'rise' in a sealed bottle.
After dinner, and a mammoth conga by all the children at the Exhibition, it was time to visit the diving team. The Nottinghamshire Constabulary Diving Team showed the children just what their job involves.
The children saw all the equipment that a diver has to wear when diving into the lakes and rivers and canals.

They also saw some of the items that the police have recovered from the bottom of rivers and lakes and canals including;
Cars !!!!, money boxes, knives, guns, rifles, and car stereos

'Imagine going into your bathroom and filling a glass from the toilet then drinking it.
When you swim in the river that's what you're doing !!' -
(Quote from the diving team)
End of the exhibition, end of the day, and a satisfied bunch of children.
All still wanting to work out how that water was set alight !!!
