What are the key roles of a School Governor in Southwold Primary School ?

Our key role is to help Southwold Primary School provide the best possible education for it's pupils by;

  • thinking and working strategically to help raise standards
  • monitoring and evaluating progress towards the school's priorities and targets
  • supporting the Head and Staff as well as challenging their expectations
  • being accountable to everybody who has an interest in Southwold Primary School for it's overall performance and for the decisions taken by the Governing Body.

School Governors of all schools have a number of accountabilities. Some of the key ones are;

  • deciding and approving all of the policies of the school including a curriculum policy
  • deciding the number of staff in the school
  • being responsible for the sound financial management of the school
  • setting appropriate targets for pupil achievement at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4, and for reporting results of any assessments carried out on the school
