Our Environment
A Child Centred Education Project

Food plays a very important part in our day. We have a breakfast-type meal at ten o'clock each morning, and often cook in the afternoon too, covering various aspects of the Science and Maths curriculum.

Our quiet area has a settee, cushions, books, cuddly toys and plants. We try to bring in the elements of the home and the classroom to our environment.

A quiet moment or two with teddy can make all the difference - sometimes the quiet area is a place of retreat for the children, sometimes it can be a place to meet and greet the whole group, and sometimes it can be a place to share our thoughts.

Role play areas such as our home corner and 'Jigsaws Cafe' help to develop communication skills, reading, writing and number, as well as inter-personal skills, confidence and co-operation.

Sand and Water play provide the children with the opportunity to explore first hand a variety of scientific concepts such as floating and sinking, magnetism and gravity as well as providing an opportunity for imaginative play.

A range of construction toys provide the opportunity to develop fine motor skills and eye/hand coordination. They also help develop problem solving, non verbal reasoning skills, and negotiation skills.
