Newsletter Friday, 6th September 2002
Dear Parents/Carers,
On behalf of everyone here at Southwold I wish you a warm welcome back after the summer break.
I am particularly pleased to be back after my forced absence last term!!
My thanks go to Miss Low and Mrs Buzza who worked tirelessly over the summer
term. They were supported admirably by all the staff and governors. I know they
were very grateful for the understanding and support given by parents during
this time.
Thank you to all parents who have supported the school by sending their children in uniform. They look splendid!!
Welcome to new staff
This week we have been pleased to welcome three new Teaching Assistants to our
staff. Another Teaching Assistant starts in the Foundation Stage Unit (FSU)
next Monday. I am sure Sarah Ozelli, Rebecca Stone, Rachel Stretton and Melissa
Fletcher will enjoy and benefit from their time at Southwold.
Milk and Dinner money
Could any parent of infant children who have not brought in their childs
milk money, please do so as soon as possible. Please take your £4 to Mrs
Buzza in the office.
I am pleased to inform you that the price for a school dinner is again unchanged at £1.34 per day (£6.70 per week). It is essential that all monies be paid on Monday morning when the Securicor collection arrives in school. Mrs Buzza is happy to accept cheques made payable to Nottingham City Council.
School Site
As you have probably noticed during the holiday holes were dug up along the
school drive and grassed areas outside Class 5. These were excavations to enable
a new gas pipe to be connected to the main supply on Kennington Road. When I
came in during the holidays I had deja-vu flashbacks to our drains
problems a couple of years ago!! The words oh no not again!! came
to mind.
Foundation Stage Unit
Mrs Duncan would like to thank all parents for their support in not coming through
the Foundation Stage Unit playground and walking around the school to get to
the main school playground. I must add also that we need parental support to
only access the FSU via their own outside door, and not using routes through
school to gain access. Many parents who have used the internal FSU door leave
it open and therefore the security of our FSU children (the youngest in school!)
is put at risk.
Medicines in school
Parents are reminded that the school will not dispense medicines. If children
require medication during the day parents are asked to arrange timings around
the school day or to come into school and give the medication to your child.
On very rare occasions the Head Teacher may keep life-saving medicine in a safe place after negotiation with parents and medical staff.
Jewellery
I have noticed some super jewellery on children during these first few days!!
However, it is a school rule that jewellery is not permitted for safety reasons.
Studs only may be worn by children with pierced ears but have to be removed
for PE activities and swimming. The staff and I would really appreciate your
support in this matter.
I look forward to seeing and speaking to you all very soon,
Kay Price
