The Paper Worm
One afternoon Harry was in the library studying his
new topic (the creation of monsters by Herold Bob). Harry thought it was boring
because he never got the words right. Soon Hermione came in and saw Harry
struggling to cope with the words. Hermione went to Harry and murmered, peeping
at the book, “Anything wrong, Harry ?”
“I can’t get the words right” sighed Harry.
“How about a practice” spluttered Hermione
“Um I don’t know” he said
“Oh come on Harry” begged Hermione”
“All right then” sighed Harry.
A couple of minutes later they were looking a spell
not so dangerous.
“How about this one, it doesn’t look dangerous at
all” and in the book was a spell for the paper worm.
Harry and Hermione were about to say the spell when
Ron came in saying “Hi Harry, Hermione”
“Ron we’re about to do a spell about making a paper
worm” whispered Harry
“Yes Ron, come and join us”. So Ron sat down on a
wooden stool studying the words carefully and slowly.
“Done” he said quickly.
“Let’s begin” said Harry impatiently, so they started
to the words;
“Blusmer, Carmatan” and suddenly in a cloud of blue
smoke a large chestnut brown slug or worm was sitting on the table in front of
Ron.
“Uh, what’s this ?”
“It’s the paper worm I guess” Harry said in a
surprised voice.
“Oh dear” Hermione said
“What is it Hermione ?” asked Ron
“Look”
Hermione said pointing at a passage.
”Oh no it’s eating my book” cried Harry, and the paper worm was eating Harry’s
whole book.
“I’ll get it” said Ron grabbing the other end of the
book, but the paper worm flung Ron off swallowing the rest of the book.
“Let’s go, it’s time for our next class”. So they got
their bags and went to the top of one of the towers. When they were in their
seats Professor Snape came up looking worse than usual.
“Everyone turn to page twelve of your new book that I
hope you have which is ‘The Creation of Monsters’”
Harry gulped, “Um, Professor Snape I haven’t got my
book”
“Well share with Ron then” hissed Snape
Harry looked at Ron’s book.
“Now the most dangerous creatures to let into the
school are the metal blob, the green falcon, the no headed badger and…….the
paper worm” said Snape.
The
rest of the class looked on as Ron put his hand up quickly.
”What’s wrong Ron?” Snape said sharply
“Why is the paper worm dangerous in the school ?”
“The paper worm eats paper and wood. But Ron why do
you ask a question about the paper worm, and not the green falcon or the no
headed badger ?”
Ron didn’t feel like he should talk but instead he
just said “Just interested, that’s all”
After class Harry went up to Snape and asked “If I
let out a paper worm how do I send it away ?”
Snape stared cautiously at Harry. “Tell me what’s
going on Potter” he demanded
“nothing
Professor” said Harry innocently.
”What’s that ?”shouted Snape as Harry was leaving.
“It’s a paper worm” shrieked the Professor, and there
it was; a slimy, pink, large, fat, lumpy and wide paper worm.
A couple of minutes later Snape took out his wand and
tapped the slimy thing on the head saying “Higgly Wiggly Puff” and in a cloud
of thick purple smoke the worm was gone.
“Potter, what was that ?” screamed Snape
“Um, a paper worm” Harry whispered, shaking and
shivering
“Potter, 50 points of Gryffindor”
Harry went out of the door whispering to himself “I
wish the paper worm would gulp you down”
