Very shortly, we will all witness the beginning of a new millenium - a time that has long been thought of as being the age of space travel.
Look at films on television, both new and old, and they show the Earth in the not too distant future becoming a rocket flying, space suit wearing planet.
Is this really what we can expect to see ??
In the early 1900's movies began to become popular - and science fiction movies were enjoyed by all. People liked to watch the adventures of FLASH GORDON as he travelled to other planets. The idea of sending people to visit the moon was pure fiction, and yet only 60 years later the first humans landed on the moon.
FICTION - In the 1960's television series 'Star Trek' people were able to talk to other people along way from them by simply opening up their 'communicator' and speaking. No wires, no ariels
FACT - In the 1990's mobile phones have become common place. No wires, no ariels, and the latest versions are as small as your hand
FICTION - In most science fiction films doors opened as people stood at them
FACT - Automatic doors are now seen everywhere
FICTION - Large storage devices hold all the important information needed by the world
FACT - Computers have been developed. We now use them to keep records and information on. The world wide web has allowed us to find out anything instantly
FICTION - In Star Wars, robots are seen working at Luke Skywalkers farm
FACT - They might not look the same, but dishwashers and washing machines all save us from doing the jobs that we don't like.
FICTION - Meals on board the USS Enterprise are instantly ready when asked for
FACT - They may not provide instant food, but microwaves are the fast food kings
These are just a few examples of fiction from films that have become reality, and the more you watch the more you will discover has been made possible.
