Popinjay Shooting

Popinjay Shooting involves shooting upwards at a 'roost' with blunt tipped arrows. The roost (see picture) consists of a Cock Bird, 4 Hens and at least 24 chicks.

Only one archer shoots at a time and only one arrow per end. A round is any number of arrows, decided beforehand, or an agreed time limit.

The roost may be raised up a mast or wall to a height of 60ft (measured to Cock Bird).

Scoring: Cock Bird = 5, Hen bird = 3, Chick = 1.

To score, a 'bird' must be knocked to the ground by an arrow.
