The Centre offers a wide range of day programmes designed to introduce children to the richness and diversity of the earth and to foster an understanding of ecological processes. A successful visit will involve exploration, observation, first-hand discovery and the development of concepts and attitudes concerning the natural environment. Many teachers view a visit to Springfield as an integral part of the children's education. The majority of schools on the programme are city schools situated in a built, man-made environment and so the contrasts given at Springfield are very valuable.
