Sir Roger Manwood's School
BOARDING
There has been boarding provision at Manwood's since the
School's earliest days, with major expansion of accommodation in the late
1940s. Girls now occupy the Lodge, once a private house but now part of the
School grounds. Boys occupy the Grange, another private dwelling which has been
incorporated into the site.
Boarders come from all over the world, as
well as from other parts of the United Kingdom. There are approximately equal
numbers of boy and girl boarders.
The
Houses develop a strong sense of community and identity, and the senior House
staff are assisted by House Tutors and Matrons in promoting the physical,
social and spiritual well-being of those in their care. Senior pupils act
as House Prefects and are encouraged to help in furthering the interests of
the younger members of their Houses.
Boarding places are offered subject to
availability and to performance in tests set by the School. There are 10 places
for boarders at the 11+ entry stage, but pupils arrive at all levels
thereafter, especially for the GCSE years and for A-Levels. Places on A-Level
courses depend on acceptable performance at GCSE; there are no inflexible rules
in this, and each case is considered on its merits.

Boarders have two exeats per term, as well as the half-term holidays, and dates for return to school try to take boarders' travel arrangements into consideration. Sandwich is conveniently situated, only a few miles from the ports of Dover and Ramsgate and not far from the A2/M2 which affords easy access to London and beyond. The town's station is only a two-minute walk from the School, and there are hourly trains to Dover and London.
Boarding fees are still only £1,962 per term (£5,886 p.a.)
