Sir Roger Manwood's School
Student Profiles

P. F. (Upper Sixth)
I’m presently in the Upper Sixth, studying A levels in English Literature, History and Religious Studies as well as GCSE Italian. I have been offered a place to read PPE at Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
I was appointed head Girl towards the end of my Lower Sixth year. This has involved taking on a number of responsibilities in school, such as helping to run the prefect system, sitting on the Sixth Form Committee and representing the school on various public occasions.
During my time at Manwood’s I have participated in a variety of extra-curricular activities, from Hockey in Year 7 to the Barnardo’s Business Incentive Scheme in my Lower Sixth. Our company was very successful and went on to win two major awards.
I’ve found Manwood’s to be an extremely friendly and welcoming school and to have a very supportive atmosphere.
A. W. (Year 9)
I am a Year 9 pupil. I study all the same subjects as the pupils in Years 7 and 8, but science is now split up into Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We also have SAT’s exams to revise for as well as internal end of year exams. At the end of this year I will have to make my GCSE choices.
I participate in a number of extra-curricular activities such as the Second Orchestra and I am in the Year 9 play, “Mort” by Terry Pratchett, which will be performed towards the end of this term. I took part in the David Starkey Public Speaking Competition which is organized every autumn term.
I am a boarder in the Grange which has many positive aspects. We have set prep times to do our homework and we also use the swimming pool every evening in the summer. Boarding is nothing like how Dickens portrayed it in his books, but more like something out of Harry Potter. Having 28 other boys in the house is a bit like having your friends sleeping over every night. Living on the school site has many advantages, like being able to go back and get forgotten homework and having a longer sleep in the morning as it only takes two minutes to actually get to school.
H. F. (Year 7)
I have joined the school's Second Orchestra, playing the clarinet, and I hope to join the Badminton Club soon. My favourite subject is French, but I also like English, RE and geography very much. We do interesting things in all our subjects and the teachers are very nice.
