Primary 6/7

About Our Class

In Primary six seven we have two teachers who share jobs called Mrs A Buchan and Mrs A Cassie.

Here is Mrs Cassie!!

Mrs Anne Buchan.

Mrs N Robertson

Every day we have maths, mental and reading. During the rest of the week we do topic, language, spelling, computing, French, gym, RE and mapping.

Sometimes we have special teachers who come to teach us home economics, music, gymnastics and art.

In the morning first thing the whole class are usually taught a lesson on topic or RE to give us work to do while the teacher is busy teaching individual groups their maths or language.

You start French in primary six. We write our vocabulary in a hardback book, which we will take with us to the Academy.

For each piece of work you complete in P6/7 you gain 20 points if it is all correct and for one mistake you get 10 points.

At the end of the week they are added up and you are given golden time according to how many points you have gained. Also the points you have collected are added up and included in our Team Totals. (See Fun Page).

During golden time you can play games, construction, Lego and game boys.

We also have a system that means you can lose points for bad behaviour. If you don’t do your homework you get 50 points off and have to stay in at playtime to do it.

We get spelling homework twice a week and also reading.

COMPUTING

In computing we learn keyboard skills and word processing inserting photos and pictures from files. We learn to write and send e-mails and how to search and use the Internet. Recently we have been designing web pages. We have also collected information and made up a graph using Information Magic, Starting First Graph and Number Magic. There are three computer groups although this is sometimes split into six depending on what we are doing!! A lot of people like computing. Computing is a brilliant thing to do because you get faster and better at your spelling and speed of typing. We think that society will change a lot in the next few years because of all the changes there are being made in technology.

SPELLING

There are four spelling groups in p6/7. We have the purple group, the green group, the orange group, and the black group.

Maths

We have five maths groups. We have the pentagons, squares, diamonds, squares and triangles. This keeps our teachers really busy!

Language

There are four language groups in our class. We have the Elliot, Byron, Shakespear and Owen groups! There are also six reading groups. Some of them are heard every day and others are heard only 3 times a week. We always have reading homework or worksheets! On top of our spelling! We think our teachers are slavedrivers!

Topic

The topic Primary 6/7 are doing just now is Victorians. We have been doing that for a while now. The Victorian times were from 1837 to 1901. Queen Victoria was on the throne for sixty - four years.

Last year we did world war two. We learned how Hitler died and how the war started and what happened at the time. We had a trip in Aberdeen to the Gordon Highlanders and the Urban Study Centre. At the Gordon Highlanders we saw a Victoria Cross. The Victoria Cross was the best medal to achieve in the whole of Britain. You could only win that medal if you were brave enough to risk your life lots of times.

We have done topics such as Space, Minibeasts, Our Town, Dinosaurs, and Europe. We also sometimes do a book study e.g. The Hill of the Red Fox. We enjoy doing these as the stories are always exciting!!

York Trip

St Combs school goes to York every two years. You get to go to a fun park there called Flamingo Land. People say that the Terroriser is the scariest ride. WE visit Eden Camp, a museum about World War Two, York Minster, The Shambles, Ouse Cruise and the Jorvik Viking Centre. There is always loads to see and do! We go ten pin bowling too! We are going to York next year.

The people that don’t go to York have to stay at school in Mr and Mrs Watt’s class in p4/5. We go down to York on a double Decker bus. We stop a few times on the way there for stuff to eat and drink. All the people who are going to York are looking forward to going because it will be really exciting. You go to York for five days and the boring part on the fifth day will be going home.

Going to York will be something to remember because you are going on holiday with your teachers and your class. It will be a great experience.

Magic Mac

Magic Mac is a sport competition to see how good you are at sport. You can win different kinds of certificates depending on how well you do. The certificates that you can win are participation, blue, bronze, silver and gold. Gold is the highest and participation is a certificate for just taking part. Last year only one person won a gold certificate. It is definitely worth trying for!
