G.C.S.E Subject Choice and Policy
Most pupils are advised and encouraged to sit nine subjects in G.C.S.E., some ten. Until the end of Third Year all children study all subjects, General Science covering the three sciences. They study Religious Education; Mathematics; English; Irish; French; History; Geography; Home economics; Art; Music; Physical Education; Technology; Social Education. After three years they specialize. Throughout Key Stage Three the pupils have Personal and Social Education. A module of Careers in included in Third Year.
Subject Choice at G.C.S.E.
This is provided as laid down in the prescribed curriculum and covers all areas of study. They choose from Additional Maths, Art, Accounting, Business Studies, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, History, Home Economics, Irish, Mathematics, Music, Religious Studies, Science (Double Award), Technology, Physcial Education.
Subject Choice at G.C.E. (A-level)
Most students sit three A-Levels; some four, some two. They choose from: Art, Accounts, Business Studies, Biology, Chemistry, English, French, Geography, History, Home Economics, Irish, Music, Mathematics, Physics, Politics, Religious Studies, Sports Studies, Sociology, Technology and G.C.S.E. Spanish. They also study Social Religious Education, Cookery, Information Technology. In line with new curriculum requirements, from 2000 they will study five AS subjects in year 13 and two, three or four in year 14.
Policy on Choice
It is school policy to facilitate
the children's choice outside the core curriculum and, at A-level, as far
as possible within teacher and number constraint. They are asked
to choose from the option list. In the event of a subject being requested
over and above the usual option by a reasonable number of girls, every
effort is made to accommodate them. The careers teacher offers ongoing
guidance and specific direction as required by the individual pupil and
her parents/guardian.
