We looked at the history of St Jude's. Here are selections of our work.

Class 6
Old St. Jude’s

St. Jude’s C.E. Primary School was built because the old primary school on Railton Road had become too full. We believe the children even had to walk over the tables to get to the other side of their classrooms. Until the year 1834, St. Jude’s was on Railton Road, next to the old church.

The first headmaster at St. Jude’s was Mr.R.W.Elliot. We also found out that a man named Mr. Brixton was living in our school he was the school keeper. There were also 299 children on roll. The average attendance during the Spring Term in 1965 was 94%.

We also saw many pictures of old St. Jude’s. My group and I, found many pictures of Mr. R.W. Elliot (headmaster) in one of them he was building the school a music room with the school keeper Mr. Briston.

Members from St. Jude’s, went to see Princess Diana at the Railton Road Methodist Church on 5th October 1992. In the photographs that we saw, she greeted Ms. Lilywhite and Ms. Wilson (current headteacher).
