A Flash of Brown

Gaze.

How quickly he dives with a plunging splash

As he jumps from the blade shaped rocks.

Eyes shy and bright, gleaming black.

His fur wet, smooth and brown.

Watch how he darts swiftly down the river,

Through his misty turquoise watery world,

Past swaying reeds and dirty weeds,

While the green river moves on.

Observe.

How he swims silently.

A swerve, a twist of gleaming brown.

A flip of his paws with a swoop and a splash.

Down he plunges into the bottom of the rippling river,

Cutting through ripples with a thrust and glide,

While the river moves on under the darkening sky.

Braddan

The Iron Woman

A leaky battery rusts slowly, poisoning the canal.

The fridge rots slowly near the iron woman’s arm.

The dark river, exceedingly cold and unfriendly in the early light.

The huge woman wades in and kneels on the river bed.

Gigantic waves splash high, completely soaking Lucy.

The colossal monster crawls quickly out onto the bank to dry.

Book Review…Matilda

Matilda is a very small girl; she has long brown hair with a fringe. Her eyes are small and blue. She is very smart for her age and can read books that adults could sometimes find difficult to read. She can add, subtract, divide and multiple very easily with four digit numbers. Her spelling ability is enormous and she can spell almost all the words in the dictionary.

Matilda finds out she has special powers, the power to make things move just with her eyes. Her mum and dad are absolutely stupid. Her dad has a car business where he buys faulty cars for nearly nothing and sells them for thousands of dollars. Matilda’s mum goes to bingo every day, so Matilda starts going to the library. When she is six she starts going to school with the head-mistress the terrible Trunchble who throws children out of windows, holds them by their pig tails and puts the children in the dreaded chocky. But the school also has another teacher who is completely the opposite of the Turntable, she is called Miss Honey, the niece of the Trunchble, everything about her Matilda thinks is great, Miss Honey is the only person that knows about Matilda’s special powers. The Trunchble inherited the house when Miss Honey’s dad died, everybody thought that the Trunchble had killed him. Matilda and Miss Honey try and get back what Matilda thought, should belong to Miss Honey.

This is an extremely exciting book I recommend it to people from eight or older. If you have read any books by Roald Dahl and liked them or just want a good book to read and can’t find one Matilda by Roald Dahl is the book to read. I give this book a ten out of ten. This book draws you into it like a black hole or a whirlpool and its so deep you could get lost in it so much you could never find your way out! The book has all the qualities of a good book, it has a mixture of basic and complex sentences, Roald Dahl has amazingly put together action, description and dialog. It is just the right size book, not too big and not too small. By the first chapter you think you are right in the middle of the conversation all the time. It is life like but it isn’t at the same time, that is something that every writer try’s to do and only Roald Dahl has managed to do. This book has had me looking through for hours upon end. I’m sure that you will be locked in it all day when you buy Matilda which you just have to. What happens in the end I here you say. Find out when you read Matilda by Roald Dahl.
