Independence A Special report from our Ghana correspondent, Adom I was born in Ghana and I lived in Tema for four years. I found this picture of a colourful parade in the capital, Accra. They're celebrating Independence Day because Ghana has been independent for 44 years. It makes its own laws and it has its own army. At the parade, the new president (President Kufuor) made a speech telling the people, " I salute our teachers today, we acknowledge your role. Work with us, take the children we entrust to your care as sacred charges and bring out the best in them. Do not be afraid of change , get new skills, discover and explore the joys of the computer age and inspire the young people to achieve. My government will support you every inch of the way."
