During 1998/99 we hope to continue our links with the local Adult Centre in Magherafelt. Last year we constructed a paved Herb Garden to go along with the Butterfly Garden, Raised Pond and Alpine Bed. Our sponsors last year were Tobermore Concrete Products and Hoggs Quarry.
We need a new sponsor this year to help cover the costs of constructing a large summer bed and a fence around the herb garden to keep the rabbits out.
Our Open Day was again a great success. All Year 9 pupils enjoyed a BBQ after their visit around the area filling in a questionnaire on the way. Prizes were again sponsored by the Bank of Ireland.
This will be the fourth year of our "Young Environmentalist of the year " competition. This competition is open to any Primary School in the area. Final day is Friday 7th. May in St. Pius X. This year we have a second sponsor NIE to go along with our original sponsor Kennedy’s Furnishings (Robin Kennedy). We have prizes for overall winner, best IT, best display and most practical. We also welcome any Special Schools to join Kilronan this year in a separate competition.
All Year 9 pupils have already planted a tree seed -Oak, Chestnut, Ash and Sycamore. All Year10 took part in a competition to win a Cherry Tree - winner Patrick Donnelly and Year 8 planted a Hyacinth. Year 11 and 12 have guest speakers during PSE eg. Mr. Maurice Todd and Frances Claxton (C.V.)
During February/March we are recycling old BT and Yellow pages along with NI 2000 and Magherafelt District Council.
Finally we have just received £12,000,000 to build a new school and our conservation area may have to go in the process!!!
