James Hilton was born September 9, 1900 but emigrated to the United States in the late 1930s. He wrote more than 20 novels including Lost Horizon  (from which the mythical “Shangri-La” became popular), Random Harvest and Goodbye, Mr. Chips. His film credits include Camille, Hitchcock’s Foreign Correspondent; and Mrs. Miniver, which won a 1942 Oscar for Best Screenplay. He died from liver cancer in Long Beach, California, on December 20 1954.

Pete Shelley, Howard Devoto, Steve Diggle and John Maher formed the punk band “The Buzzcocks” and for the next 3 years recorded some of their best songs, including Promises and the classic Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've). The band split but re-formed in 1989 around Shelley and Diggle and still do concerts around the world.
