• To develop in each child the talents, abilities and interests which he or she has shown in the school.

• To develop happy, responsible and caring attitudes within the children.

• To encourage self respect, self discipline, perseverance, independence and curiosity in the children.

• To produce literate, and numerate children who can develop skills necessary for secondary education and later life.

• To foster a school community where each individual feels secure, and to encourage parental support, backing and involvement in that community.

Enrolment is annually, following notification by the Authority who advertise dates in the local press in the early part of the year. Children who will be five years of age on or before the last day of February of the session, will be admitted in August.

Opportunities will be afforded to parents/guardians (and children) to visit the School before pupils attend in August. A number of links are fostered through the village play group, Parent/Teacher Association meetings, surrounding nurseries, a pre-school handbook, parent bulletins and school activities to enhance the feeling of belonging before children start full-time education.

Children normally transfer to Ellon Academy at the end of their Primary 7 year. This transfer is made as smooth as possible through the work undertaken co-operatively by the different Primaries and Secondary. Some examples of the work are: shared activities with the neighbouring schools in the Cluster Group, a primary/secondary 'link' project, and visits to the Academy in the summer term. All of these help to ease the transition.
