PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

At Tarves Primary we are particularly keen to see parent/guardian volunteers being involved with the children at school. In particular we have found that their help is invaluable in the Infant classes, where another pair of hands is always welcomed. The work tackled by these volunteers - who are after all drawn from those parents/guardians who are available and willing to offer us their time - is governed by a strict policy which is carefully adhered to at the school.

The work undertaken by all volunteers is delegated by members of staff, who have previously consulted with the Head Teacher, to establish suitable tasks to be undertaken by those persons concerned. In this manner, all volunteers are involved in supporting the class teacher's work, yet they are not involved in teaching or its delivery.

COMMUNITY LINKS

Tarves Primary School is committed to being involved in the local community, and is anxious to play an important role in drawing all aspects of that community together.

The links the school has with the elderly are particularly important in promoting a greater understanding of history and a sense of belonging, which in turn, sustains the rich heritage of the village and surrounding area.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The main types of extra curricular activities embarked upon at the school are sporting in nature. We attempt to provide the children with opportunities to develop skills in hockey, netball, cross-country running, tennis and football.

When, and where possible we view parental/guardian support in this area as of great benefit in promoting different leisure activities.

Our commitment is also high in respect of the performing arts, where we interweave music and drama into our day to day programme, and we regularly send children to represent the school at festivals catering for music, dance and drama.

SCHOOL ATTIRE

The school has an informal school uniform which can be ordered from our suppliers a number of times throughout the year. Should you not require the navy blue sweatshirt with the school badge embroidered, tie, tee-shirt or jogging trousers available, we ask that pupils attend in a tidy and suitable manner. The items that make up this informal school uniform go well with a blue shirt or blouse and grey or navy trousers or skirts.
