4 Conference 2000
DMcV had faxed venue details to JM. Copies were distributed. Price details etc.
accepted.
Action Sub-group to arrange a meeting and JW to contact DMcV to clarify matters regarding
correspondence etc.
- RM suggested that colleagues who travel to Conference from a distance
could be picked up by members of the committee. This, was accepted.
- Suggestion of a one-day conference was not passed.
- Conference should have a 'story'. Conference 2000's 'story' would be on
the lines of Quality in an Advisory Service and how to ensure it"
- Pro forma (JW and AMS) to elicit views of members on conference content
considered a good idea but too late for Conference 2000
- Suggestions for main speakers and workshops were many: Dr Sam Galbraith,
Eleanor Currie (East Renfrewshire), Roy Jobson ( Director, Edinburgh), Mike McCabe (
Ayrshire), Douglas Osler or someone from the Audit Unit, Mary Simpson, Frances Colgan (
South Lanarkshire), Tommy Doherty ( to round up conference main points).
Action : Sub-group to take forward suggestions and clarify who writes to
speakers
5 Structure and Balance of the Curriculum
Not all members of the committee had seen the preview questionnaire. Likely date for
response October.
6 AEAS Responses to Consultation - A Response Mechanism
A number of consultations were due before Christmas e.g. Environmental Studies, Modern
Languages, Structure and Balance, Scotland Bill... It was agreed that the committee had to
respond to generic documents but that we would as advisers be responding to subject
specific documents in our local authorities.
Response Mechanism: document issued, JW contacts relevant committee
members ( 2-3 people), response written by these short life sub-groups.
Action : In order to respond to both Structure and Balance and
Consultation Bill (Scotland) aka Improving our Schools all the committee should meet. ( 1
November 1999)
