Roderick McKenzie (President), May Boyd, Janey Mauchline
(Vice-president), Tommy Doherty, Judy Rankine, Sheila Walker, Nora Conlan (Treasurer),
George Reid
2. Apologies
Alastair Horne, Yvonne McCracken, Fiona Norris (Secretary)
In Fiona's absence, George agreed to act as secretary.
Action: George to ask Fiona if she has the minutes of AGM 2001
3. Correspondence
- A Draft Association Agreement had been received from NAIEAC. Discussion ensued on our
likely titles and roles in future. Cost of having two of our office-bearers on NAIEAC
to be
investigated. Judy Rankine had heard of another relevant association for us to
consider.
Action: Roderick to sign the agreement with NAIEAC and return it.
- A bill from Harper McLeod had arrived (£7400)
Action:
- Tommy to write asking for a break-down of the bill
- £4000 of the bill to be cleared immediately (£1000 from the main account, and £3000
from the Conference Account)
4/5 Minutes and matters arising
Minutes approved and matters arising would appear on agenda
- Salaries Sub-Group
- Tommy reported. Our position was still confused and contested. We could not afford to go
further with our action via Harper/McLeod, because of insufficient funds. The present bill
could be met in part, but some £3000 would have to be met from post-conference funding. A
levy had been discussed, but was rejected. Re the solicitor, although we had sisted, we
still seemed to be incurring expense. We had to ensure that action on our behalf was
stopped.
5.2 SNCT would not now meet until 28th February, with no guarantee of
immediate settlement. The
delay was roundly deprecated.. We had been sucked into the general problem of finding
funding
to implement McCrone. Discussion of our 'way forward' would have to feature at our
AGM.
- An article about the Advisers' case had featured in TES last week, Salient points about
the level of
support we had from other interested parties were not however included. It was agreed
that at
least this article 'kept the issue alive'.
- If any settlement after 9th March was unsatisfactory, then some of us might
still consider legal
action. At any rate we would be due back pay for 2001-2002, and the feeling was that by
lodging
our petition before July last year we would have a strong case for this.
Action:
- A part-payment to be made to the lawyer and a break-down requested (See above)
- Tommy to tell the lawyer to 'stop' for the present, so that we got no more bills.
- All urged to persuade colleagues to go the Conference. Funds so gathered would help
.
- Speak to MSPs directly at surgeries about the delay and about the former
Minister's,(Jack McConnell's!) support for our case as witnessed at last year's
Conference.
- Tommy to contact Christine Dignan (ADES) again, to canvass support.
- Conference up-date
- The Minister cannot attend. There is a SEED launch on Standards and Quality on Friday 8th
March
- On 'Citizenship', Kenny Dykes cannot come, but he will be represented by his Deputy.
- Judy Rankine proposed a joint slot for herself and Fiona with Ronnie McLellan (Judy.s
Head of Service), because he could offer useful information on ICT and CPD.
Action:
- With the proviso that the presentation would be varied and the title would not be
changed, then the slot could take the form of a presentation on strategy from R Mcl.,
followed by a nice, interactive contribution from Judy and Fiona.
- Judy to talk to Ronnie about his doing a 10-minute intro.
- Action
The following tasks were passed through George to Fiona:
- Give her Elaine Collier's and Isobel McGregor's addresses
- Remind her to invite Martin Williams of Northern College, officially
- Minutes of last AGM to be located
- Agenda for AGM to be prepared. The main addition from last year would be a slot on 'the
way forward' (Given role redefinition, NAIEAC overtures etc)
- Gordon Jeyes to be formally invited to open the Conference
- Action: Tommy to check that Willis Pickard was invited
- Tommy indicated his intention to stand down as Conference Secretary for next year.
- Action: For our post Conference meeting on Saturday the 9th March it was
proposed that we have a good initial idea of the themes and names for 2003 Conference, to
make things easier for the next Conference Convenor.
- Action: details of musical entertainment had still to be fixed
