A staff development activity on
counselling skills
led by Terry Ashton for Kincorth ASG
7 March 2001
at
Summerhill Education Centre room 353
9.15am to 3.30pm
I am pleased that you are able to participate in this one-day
staff development event and look forward to working with you.
The purposes of the day, which were arrived at through
negotiation with ASG schools, are
to be aware of the interpersonal skills you already possess
to build on these skills and develop counselling skills and
approaches
to develop confidence in dealing with situations you encounter
in school
to develop further your appreciation of the different needs of
other people, and seeing things from their point of view
to develop ways of responding to the needs of pupils through
the use of counselling skills
to examine how you can apply counselling skills to your
teaching and normal interactions with pupils, other staff and parents
The day, will be interactive and participative, is not about
trying to become a counsellor, but rather to help you to use counselling approaches in
your present work.
You will be pleased to hear that you do not need to do any
work to prepare for the day just come prepared to learn and contribute in
approximately equal proportions!
Coffee/tea and lunch will be provided.
