On the 3rd of February 1999 our class 5DW went on a nature walk to the nature garden , to look at some of the wildlife and plants . When we got down we looked in the pond and we could see afew pond skaters and lots of frog spawn. Frog spawn is made when frogs lay their eggs and they are all bunched together like jelly and they will hatch out later in the spring and turn into tadpoles. By Annie

When we went down the nature garden I saw lots of tiny bits of frogsprawn and toadsprawn spread out across the pond, there was dull water snails and blue and white fish swimming around in the pond. There was some quiet pond skaters on the pond surface and some hard rocks sticking out of the pond. The pond water was very cold, It was very muddy round the outside of the pond because the water has been splashing up onto the dry mud and has made the dry mud all slippery and horrible. In the forest, which is by the pond, I saw huge mole holes in the ground and dirty brown mud. I also saw some ruff brambles and dry grass. By Kirsty

I saw beautiful fish which had blue lines down its body the colour of the body was yellow . I also saw toadstools which was bright orange and red . I could see lots of frog spawn which looked like dots on a piece of paper . There were also high trees and the branches on it were clean . In the pond I could see three water skaters splashing about . There were mole holes in a line . I saw a slow worm going underground in the low grass . The leaves was alive and some still are . I could also see a little bit of pollution. By James

There was great excitement today in the classroom, we were going down to the Nature Garden. Luckily it was a dry day although it was very muddy and slippery underfoot. Unfortunately I got splashed in mud ! When we were all safely down at the Nature Garden, we looked at the pond and

had clear water so we could see small green shoots of water plants (aquatic) starting to grow again after their winter's rest. We saw spawn, I think it was toad and frog spawn, it was lying on the mud at the bottom of the pool. We saw a few insects but I think there are not many types around yet, it is still too cold. To me the area smelt of dead and rotten leaves which is typical of marshy areas. By James II
